The West Virginia Department of Health (DH), the West Virginia Department of Health Facilities (DHF), and the West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) today announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Summer Internship Program. The program offers meaningful work experience to students interested in careers in health, health facilities, and human services.
The Office of Human Resources Management within the Office of Shared Administration (OSA) is seeking driven students who want to gain professional experience while contributing to state government operations. Participants will work alongside experienced staff and engage in real-world projects that build skills and support future career goals.
“The Summer Internship Program provides opportunity for students to explore career paths in health and human services while gaining valuable, hands-on experience,” said Angie Jacobs-Ferris, Chief Human Resources Officer for the Office of Human Resources Management. “Many interns go on to pursue fulfilling careers in public service, and this program serves as an introduction to the impact state government can have on communities across West Virginia.”
The agencies offer a competitive wage and flexible schedules. Students working in Charleston may also be eligible for free or low-cost housing.
To be eligible, applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours, have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher, and be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. Preference will be given to West Virginia residents and students.
The priority deadline to apply is February 1, 2026, and the regular application deadline is March 1, 2026.
Students and interested applicants can access the internship application online at dohs.wv.gov/employment.
